Summer Dawns

Summer Dawns
by V R Heal

A time of possibilities,
when there is a sensation of anticipation.
The sun leaves shadows long and light bright,
with colours squinting and breezes fading.
The air thickens and the days lengthen,
the fabrics flow and the hair tumbles.

These are the days of yester-year,
the days of tomorrow and the eve of the summer.
Children tumble out of doorways,
men ease their shoulders and the women ease their dresses.

A freeness awaits,
a smile beckons
and the sun calls out that summer's coming.
